Built to be usable by every student.

What we test

• Automated testing with axe-core against WCAG 2.1 A and AA rules plus best practices, on every page, at 1440 pixels and 390 pixels wide. The current build reports zero violations.
• HTML validity through the W3C validator on every page, because assistive technology depends on valid structure.
• Keyboard paths: skip link, navigation, tabs, carousels, the photo viewer, forms, and every practice tool.
• Color contrast on text, links, and interface controls.

What we build in

• A skip link to the main content on every page.
• Headings in order, one first-level heading per page, and landmarks for navigation, main content, and the footer.
• Visible focus outlines, and no keyboard trap anywhere, including the photo viewer and the guide sidebar.
• Text alternatives for images; decorative images hidden from assistive technology.
• Data tables with row and column headers, including the printable flow sheets.
• Forms with labels, inline error messages tied to the field, and focus moved to the first problem.
• Motion that respects the reduced-motion setting: animations, scroll reveals, and page transitions all switch off.
• Pages that work without JavaScript for reading. Tools that need JavaScript say so.

Known limitations

• The map on the communities page uses a third-party library. It is labeled and has a text description, and the same information appears in the text beneath it, but the map itself is not a substitute for that text.
• Photographs are low resolution until higher-quality originals replace them.
• The printable flow sheets are designed for paper. The digital flow is the accessible alternative.
• Automated testing catches a portion of accessibility problems. We have not yet completed a full manual audit with screen reader users.

Tell us what does not work

If a page, tool, or document is hard to use, tell us what you were trying to do and what happened. We treat accessibility reports as corrections: checked within two business days, fixed, and logged.
